Whale Watching

Winter is a season of romance for Gray Whales as they head south to breed in the warm waters of Mexico.  Take your sweetheart on a whale watching excursion out of the San Diego Harbor or book a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner cruise.  Chances this time of year  you’ll see some beautiful gray whales as well as several types of dolphins.

Sea World

If your Valentine would like to get a little closer to a whale or dolphin, head over to Seaworld San Diego.  For a fee, visitors can interact with Beluga whales and dolphins.  Rumor has it a special “Dine with Shamu” meal is also available on Valentine’s Day. Check with the park for more details.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

This impressive wild animal park isn’t just for kids!  On Valentine’s Day it offers a romantic sleepover for adults only. At this “Roar and Snore: Animal Amore at the Park” event, couples can share a romantic candlelit dinner, take a breeding tour, and learn more about the love lives of animals at the Zoo Safari Park.  If things go well with your sweetheart, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is also a unique and breathtaking location for a wedding!

San Diego Zoo

I have visited the San Diego Zoo for several exhibit openings, and can tell you from experience that some of the more formal restaurants at the zoo serve elegant and delicious meals. Valentine’s Day Brunches and Dinners will be served throughout Valentine’s Day weekend as well as a Valentine’s Dinner on Monday.  The San Diego Zoo offers a number of unique animal encounters and behind the scenes tours are offered that are sure to impress your Valentine!

San Diego offers plenty of romantic wild adventures this Valentine’s Day.  If you are looking for an off beat romantic hotel, try the Porto Vista in downtown San Diego. The restaurant has a killer view of the San Diego Bay, and the retro decor will make your sweetheart feel like Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday.

Go a little wild in San Diego this Valentine’s Day and give your lover an unforgettable weekend adventure.
